Bricks/blocks arranged with bricks side on.
English Bond

Flemish Bond
Bricks/blocks arrangement, alternate end on and side on.
Header Bond
Bricks/blocks arranged with bricks end on.
Quoins
Stones or bricks used as decoration on the corner of buildings.
Crenellation
Square indentations atop a wall, decorative or defensive in nature.
Buttress
Stone or brick structure built to support a wall.
Keystone
The stone in the middle of the arch that gives the structure strength.
Double Hung
Window composed of 2 vertically sliding sashes.
Bay
A window and construction that protrudes from a wall.
Casement
Window attached to a frame by hinges on 1 side.
Palladin
3 section window in which the larger central window is arched.
Mansard
Mansard roofs have 4 slopes, each with 2 pitches.
Pyramidal
Hip roof with equal sized sides centered over a square plan.
Shed
Single slope, single pitch, roof between 2 gable ends.
Gambrel
Roof with 2 slopes each with 2 pitches, lower pitch steepest.
Hip
A hip roof has 4 sloping sides and no flat end.
Gable
Prism shaped roof with flat triangular 'gable walls' at either end.
Ionic
Scroll or volute (often a cylinder) on either side of the column.
Tuscan
Square (abacus) above a curved convex moulding (echinus).
Corinthian
Rows of acanthus leaves below four scrolls in the corners.
Composite
Mixture of acanthus and Ionic scrolls (volutes).
Metope
Carved scenes separated by triglyphs.
Triglyph
Vertical grooved rectilinear stone that separates metopes.
Architrave
Horizontal block that sits atop columns but under triglyphs.
Unworked
Natural unworked surface of flint.
Primary Flake
Flint struck once to form a tool edge.
Secondary Flake
Flint struck multiple times to refine the tool edge, i.e. serration.
Pointed
2 symmetrical straight slopes form a triangle with a cornice.
Fanlight
Semi-circular window above a door with radial cames or muntins.
Saddle Bar
Supporting metal bar (interior of window) soldered to cames.
Leadlight
Coloured glass panes connected by cames to form a window.
Stained Glass
Coloured glass with a fired painted surface conntected using cames.
Came
Lead H (in section) shaped strip in which glass panes are placed.
Tile
Rough sandy organge fabric, often consistant colour throughout.
Concrete
Binder - gypsum or quicklime and aggregate - rock or CBM.
